God created a marvelous mechanism in our bodies, designed to keep us from doing major harm to ourselves. Our volition, however, over rides the instinct and we can do some of the dumbest things. Some of it silly, some of it devastating, and I t’s the same way with sin.

Sin doesn’t just happen. There is allure, contemplation, rationalization, resistance, then a decision to give in. It can happen in a moment or over a period of time, but the process is the same. Remember Adam and Eve. The tree was right there, she knew it was forbidden, but the serpent placed a little doubt in her mind. It was pleasing to the eyes, and the knowledge she would gain, surely that couldn’t be bad? It was too good to be true and to good to resist, and she took it ate it and gave it to her husband.

Sin can seem to be a little thing. No one is getting hurt. No one will know. The thing about sin is that it is always destructive, and the littler it seems the more insidious it can be. That is why God makes a way, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (Hebrews 10:13).

God always makes an escape, we just have to be looking for it. Guys, maybe, when your tempted to go to that porn site and you lose connection God is saying something to you. Do you regard it as an opportunity to escape, or in your persistence to sin you ignore God’s provision? Women, your sitting with your friends and they begin to gossip about someone in church. Before you engage the conversation one of your children run in crying. Do you see this as God’s provision to break the conversation or do you look for an opportunity to re-engage the conversation?

like our bodies, the Father has given us the mechanisms to fight against sin. Let the blisters remind you not to touch it again. I’m just saying.
