Today We Prayed

Today we prayed. It’s a privilege to pray, something that we often neglect. Life gets busy, moments pass by and before you know it that promise to pray for someone has passed. How can we discipline ourselves to do something that should be as natural as breathing? There isn’t an easy answer, but how do we engage our spouse, children, friends? Do days go by without speaking with them?

Prayer is engaging our Heavenly Father for the pure pleasure of his presence. Have you ever read a passage of scripture and then sat silently letting the words fill your thoughts? Don’t ask for anything. Don’t petition for a cause. Let the Holy Spirit fill you up with the word of God until you have exhausted your capacity to remain in his presence.

Then, if you can, journal what God has taught you. Afterwards share your insight with someone. “Do you know what God taught me today?” They might have learned something as well, listen to them, and thank the Lord for revealing grace.

I prayed for someone today. Will you pray with me?

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
