Stop It

Stop It
Watched a video clip last night with Bob Newhart. He was a counselor who could fix all your problems with two words, Stop It! A lot of our behavioral problems are the result of early childhood trauma, not enough love, and the lack of appropriate touch. But despite our history we are responsible for our attitudes, language, and actions. Boomers grew up in an age where we learned that nothing was our fault, we just had faulty parents. Well guess what? STOP IT!

Our history shapes us but it doesn’t dictate our lives. Sure my mom made me feel bad, but I don’t have to eat to compensate for it. My dad told me I was lazy, but I don’t have to prove him right by doing nothing, or try to prove my self by overachieving. I can chose balance, it may not be easy to break the bounds of childhood, but I have a choice.

So, the next time you feel like yelling at your spouse or children, STOP IT! The next time you start to complaining because you ____________________,  STOP IT! You can’t change things by complaining. Maybe you slammed doors because you didn’t get your way, or stole from mom’s purse because you felt entitled, STOP IT!

  •  “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do“ (Gal. 5:16,17).

I like this approach to life, because most people will blame everyone  but themselves. So, if your in a situation where you are tempted to sin, and you know that it is sin, STOP IT! I am just saying…
